SAILORS RAISE $25,000 FOR PERRAM HOUSE AT THE INAUGURAL TORONTO AREA HOSPICE REGATTA

Toronto, Ontario – June 23, 2008: The National Yacht Club is pleased to announce that the 1st Annual Toronto Area Hospice Regatta held on June 21 & 22, presented by ING DIRECT, was a great event raising $25,000 for Perram House, a residential hospice in downtown Toronto. This two day event attracted 30 racing boats from across Ontario and the United States.

Affiliated with the National Hospice Regatta Alliance in the United States, this is the first Canadian regatta giving sailors a chance to qualify in subsequent years for the national championships. Beneteau 36.7 boats competed in the Canadian championships at this regatta.


Winners in each one design division are as follows:

C&C 115 Division

“We are grateful for the generosity and kindness of the participants of the Toronto Area Hospice Regatta,” said Mary Ellen Hopgood, currently managing Donor Relations and former Executive Director, Perram House. “This regatta is a wonderful example of businesses and individuals coming together to support and enrich the lives of individuals and families in our community. As a residential hospice, we rely heavily on corporate funding and donations in order to offer a special kind of medical and emotional support to our clients and their families during the final journey of a life-threatening illness.”

About Perram House:
Perram is a pioneer in residential hospice care in Toronto, offering palliative care to individuals who have a limited life expectancy. In the spirit of compassionate care, Perram House has roots in the community that extend back to 1988 as The White Light Hospice, founded by Anne Norris. In 2003, the hospice closed its doors to reorganize, rebuild and renovate, and emerged as Perram House in 2005, named after the building’s owner, Mary Anne Perram. This eight-bed facility offers continuous palliative care in a home setting with a dedicated nursing staff and physicians, along with trained volunteers placing the client in control of his or her life and care. www.perramhouse.ca
