Team Avow Hospice Naples, Florida
This team comes from Avow Hospice in Naples, Florida. The skipper is Ed Dixon. Ed and his wife, Lois, have been long time multihull sailors where they currently hold the Southwest Florida Multihull Boat of the Year award. They began their sailing together in 1982 on a Hobie Cat and then moved up to a bigger boat, a Corsair 24, which they currently race. They continue to enjoy sailing as a Husband & Wife team where they have competed in regattas around the country, most recently Corsair Nationals in Pensacola, Florida.
Ed and Lois spend their summers in Johnston, Iowa with their family and winters in Marco Island, Florida. It is in Naples, Fl where they have raced in the Avow Hospice regatta for the past 5 years.
Sailing with Ed as crew is Steve Romaine of Ft Myers, Fla who sails a Jenneau and has represented Avow Hospice in a past National Hospice Regattas. Other crew members are Larry and Joe Geller from Lighthouse Pt, Fla. Larry has been crewing for Ed and Lois for many years on their Corsair 24 until he bought a Corsair 750 and now sails as a fellow competitor. Joe, Larry’s 15 year old son, regularly crews for his dad and occasionally for Ed. Joe will be replacing Lois as crew since she is recovering from an injury.
Ed’s father passed away from cancer and Hospice was with them up to the end of his journey. They were there to offer support and take care of details which very much eased the loss of a loved one. We will ever be grateful to Hospice for being there to help us say good-by to our very dear father, Edward Dixon, Sr. Thank you, Hospice.
