Jack Beatty Memorial Niagara Hospice Regatta
Competing Skipper '06 -- Don Finkle
Don is returning to the National regatta for the second year in a row. He sails a Beneteau First 36.7 Seaweed out of the Youngstown YC on Lake Ontario, which he used to win the 2005 Niagara Hospice Regatta. Don has sailed all his life, and has competed in many different boats such as Lasers, J/24s, J/30s, C&C 29s, and others with success. For the last four seasons he has campaigned in Beneteau First 36.7s all over North America as skipper or crew, winning or placing in San Diego, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Annapolis and elsewhere. Sailing Seaweed is a family and friends affair, as we have many different people sail with us over the course of the season. We enjoy sailing with new sailors too, and we especially enjoy it when our crew members bring their kids along. Don's wife Heather won the local season championship in 2004 & 2005 in the genoa-only class.
The Nationals crew for this year includes:
Paul Hays, who is PRO of our local Hospice regatta and was three times a Catalina 22 National Champion
Paul Cannon, a very accomplished sailor who has competed in Albacores, Solings, J/24s and J/22s
Morgan Paxhia, a former captain of the URI sailing team
Scott Walter, an excellent bowman and sometime mountain climber
