13th Annual Hospice Regatta of Greater Hampton Roads
June 16, 2007

Our Mission...
It is the mission of the participating hospices to provide quality care for adults and children with life threatening illnesses. That care extends to their families both during the patient's final months and beyond. Whether this care is given in one's home, a nursing home, or hospital, our hospices provide the patient and the family physical, emotional, social, and spiritual support.

Our Goal...
The goal of the hospice regatta is to raise money for our participating, not for profit, hospices, and to raise public awareness. We believe that the last months, weeks, and days of life should be as meaningful and filled with as much love and caring as possible. To this end, we are committed to help ensure that hospice care is available to all who seek it, regardless of ability to pay.

How You Can Help...
Send your check, payable to Hampton Roads Hospice Regatta, to PO Box 11088, Newport News, VA 23601. Your contribution is tax deductible. If you would like a receipt, please request one and we will be happy to send it to you.

Let's Race...
Hosted by the Hampton Yacht Club, more than 40 sailboats will compete on a closed course in the Hampton Roads harbor. The race is open to sailors in spinnaker and non-spinnaker classes and includes a Hospice class for sailors who do not normally race but want to show their support for Hospice care in Hampton Roads. Click here for a view of the race circular information. Click here for a race entry form.

FAIR WINDS FOR HAMPTON ROADS HOSPICE REGATTA

August 8 was "an absolutely perfect day of sailboat racing" in the Southern Chesapeake Bay.

Twenty-three boats turned out, racing in a West to Northwest breeze of 5-10 knots, with some gusts to 12 knots. No one was over the starting line early, no one protested anyone else, and everyone repaired to the new Hampton Yacht Club deck for crabs, beer and sodas.

The sailors contributed above and beyond their entry fees, and a silent auction raised additional money for Riverside Hospice and Edmarc Hospice for Children.

Overall winner Sanford Richardson. Overall winner Sanford Richardson.

The 2002 Race

Hosted by the Hampton Yacht Club, more than 40 sailboats competed on a closed course in the Hampton Roads Harbor.

John Hanna and the Battlewagon crew will be headed to the 2003 National Championship Hospice Regatta to represent Greater Hampton Roads early next Spring. Tentative
plans call for the regatta to be held in Annapolis for the second consecutive year. John "Hospice" Hanna is not a newcomer to the event; he has been once before.

Battlewagon earned the right to go to the National event by the skin of her teeth. The overall winner is determined by figuring the fleet winner that covered the course in the quickest time based on corrected time. Event Chairman Glenn Giles and Race Committee Chairman Dicky
Boykin explained that Battlewagon traversed her course at 6.23 knots while nipping at her heels (on paper) was the PHRF C Fleet winner, Incentive, with a 6.21 rate of speed.

RESULTS:
PHRF A (4 boats): 1. Battlewagon, John Hanna; 2. Mirage, C.
Schaumloffel; 3. Feather, Phil Briggs.
PHRF B (8 boats): 1. Independence, Graham Field; 2. Gremellyn, Greg
Cutter; 3. Callinectes, Ben Cuker.
PHRF C: (8 boats) 1. Incentive, Ron Lewis; 2. Rocket J, Bert Lewis; 3.
Roundabout, Alan Bomar.
PHRF NS (7 boats): 1. Insolvent, Ben Owens; 2. Valkyrie, Karl Petersen;
3. Faith, Rudy Lotz.

Hospice Regatta of Greater Hampton Roads
, 2001
September 22, 2001

September 22 will mark our 7th year serving the Hampton Roads community. Spinnaker and non spinnaker boats as well as a special "hospice class", for sailors who do not normally compete, but want to show their support for hospice care will sail in the Hampton Roads Harbor.

The Hospice Benefit Party will be held at North Landing, in Portsmouth, rain or shine, following the race, from 4-8PM. Once again, the fabulous Bill Deal and the Rhondells will perform in this beautiful waterfront location. The party is free and open to the public. Tickets to the VIP tent, that include all food and beverage, are available for $25 from any participating hospice.

Corporate and individual sponsors are always needed to help our hospices carry out this important work. Money raised at this event go directly to patient care and training of volunteers. Sponsorship levels range from $250-$2500. Please join us for a great day on the water and for our fun on shore activities.

Hospice Regatta of Greater Hampton Roads-1999
Hampton Roads, October 2

The Hampton Yacht Club is Race Sponsor for the 5th annual Hospice Regatta of Greater Hampton Roads, setting a challenging course on the historic waters of southern Chesapeake Bay. This regatta, which raises funds and community awareness for seven area hospices, is the nation's largest charity regatta in terms of multiple beneficiaries, of which one is Edmarc Hospice for Children, the oldest pediatric hospice in the county. Fleet sizes average 40; entries are open to sailors in four spinnaker and two non-spinnaker classes with another class for non-racers who want to show support for hospice care. One of race sailing's most beautiful trophies, a bronze sculpture of dolphins and sea turtles created by David Turner of Turner Sculpture, Onley, Va., represents the overall award for this regatta. WAVY TV10, an NBC affiliate, has been the Co-Presenting sponsor for the regatta. The Awards Party, with dance music provided by local bands, is free and open to the public at the City of Hampton's waterfront Mill Point Park.
