Who We Are
The Alliance exists to support charity sailing regattas that raise funds for and awareness of non-profit hospice services in local communities.
The NHRA is:
- A non-profit, 501(c)(3) association of hospice regattas that independently raise money and awareness for local hospices.
- A nationwide network of charity regattas which publicizes Hospice care — from the East to the West Coast, from the Great Lakes to Florida.
- An all-volunteer organizational body helping hospice regattas grow and learn from each other, and promoting Hospice care nationally.
- An alliance that hosts an annual sailing Championship, the first and only sailing championship for charity in the country, where top sailors from the local hospice regattas compete in order to publicize and raise more funds for Hospice.
Why Regattas?
Sailing regattas are distinctive, colorful and engaging events that generate enthusiasm among participants and guests. Regatta attendance includes sailboat owners and crew, as well as others who enjoy the on-water and on-shore activities. Regattas can raise hospice funds through sponsorship of the competing boats, live and silent auctions, and corporate sponsors of the event. Hospice regattas are more public and more casual than many fundraisers, and sailboat racing requires teamwork, which makes a natural fit with the teamwork of Hospice care.
NHRA Board of Directors
An all volunteer board of directors does most of the execution and control of the Alliance functions. Board members are drawn from hospices, sailing enthusiasts, yacht clubs, private industry and individuals passionate about making hospice care available to everyone.
